The Ultimate Fall Bounty…Apples!

With the official start of autumn around the corner, it's just about that time to visit the many orchards in our area for the season’s best activity: apple picking. Family and friends from all over converge in the many apple orchards to take part in this fall tradition. It is truly a wonderful time of the year to be in upstate New York! And I think we can agree that getting those crisp apples back to the kitchen for cooking and baking is when the magic begins.

If you haven’t been, I highly recommend visiting apple orchards. Come to Fo’Castle and get some apples here. There are many varieties along with scrumptious apple cider doughnuts, pies and traditional apple cider. Since 1908, Fo'Castle Farm has been a mainstay in the Burnt Hills community. Fourth generation owners, Glenn and Anne Hogue, strive to preserve the friendly and down-home atmosphere. "We really feel we are in a unique situation" says Glenn. "It's more than a business to us, it's a way of life. Now, with our new partners Stella Pasta Bar and Bakery, we are a year-round destination. The cool fall weather brings the crowds, but the savvy customer knows that Fo'Castle is alive and happening twelve months a year."

Our creative and awesome bakers at Stella are baking crispy apple turnovers daily. There’s a good reason that this is our bestselling bakery item! How about muffins, tea breads and mouthwatering, freshly baked desserts after dinner in the restaurant? You may want to try our hot apple cider on a cool evening.

We have many new surprises up our sleeve this fall to offer you in both the bakery and restaurant. One of our customer picks is the apple cinnamon crepe with apple almond butter, available every Sunday for brunch. We tested an apple cider Mimosa this week and it was so good! One of Chef John’s specialties is his butternut squash soup, made from scratch of course, with apples! Enjoy crisp apples in your harvest spinach salad! And check out our many chalkboard specials each week...from savory to sweet. Apple fritters anyone? Maybe a sausage, apple, cheddar omelette or a fresh oven baked turkey sandwich with apples? We will be having fun in the kitchen and bakery knowing that you will enjoy this year’s apple haul!
